So, you either stumbled across this link while looking at my dumb site or you genuinely want to learn this... Well, either way, welcome! This is a guide detailing how to beat The Griffon Legend's 3ds port in ~40 minutes or maybe even less.
First and foremost, you need to download the game! The port's Github page can be found here..
Let's get started with a little introduction to the game. The Griffon Legend was originally released in 2005 by syn9, and it was written in FreeBasic. It was pretty niche for its time, but still a very solid game with an intended runtime of ~2 hours. However, due to it being written in Freebasic and utilizing SDL, it could only run on Windows platforms.
As such, to port the game, people would have to completely rewrite the game in a new language. However, this was made slightly easier by the fact that the game's code was stored in a .bas file, which can be easily accessed and edited with any old text editor. After a while, it was ported to c for GCW-Zero handheld by Dmitry Smagin. However...
Due to the fact that no code port is perfect, the code came out a little quirky, to say the least. The game, on the surface, functions completely fine, and can be beaten as intended. So, no real bugs seemed to exist.
In 2016, nop90 used this same C code to port the game to the 3ds, and it continued getting updates until 2017, where all bug fixes for the code ceased.
But, even with those updates, of course some bugs slipped through the cracks. And, with the odd control scheme the port happened to possess, and my usual incompetence at controlling new games led me to find one of these bugs.
And, this single bug has turned this two hour game into one that can be beaten in just under 40 minutes.
